The tax division of the Sheriff’s Office is responsible for the collection of real estate and personal property taxes along with several additional services.

 Pertinent Tax Division Information

Tax tickets are mailed in July and become delinquent if unpaid by April 30th of the following year. They are published if not paid by May 10th.  Delinquent taxes cannot be removed from publication after payment if the payment is made after September 10th. Three publications of delinquency are required before the Sheriff’s Land Sale, which occurs usually on the 2nd or 3rd Monday of November.  After October 15th of each year delinquent taxes must be paid in cash, by money order or by certified check in order to keep the property from being sold.  No personal checks are accepted after October 15th.  Also, no one can pay delinquent taxes on the morning of the sale date.  The latest day to pay the taxes to avoid the Sheriff’s Sale is the Friday before the sale takes place.  The landowner can call five days after the sale to find out what happened to the property.

Additional Services As Follows Are Offered By The Tax Division

(a.)  License renewal for Class A vehicles – A $1.00 processing fee is added to your regular registration fee when they are renewed in this office.  This fee can be avoided if you take your tax receipt and renew directly with the Department of Motor Vehicles.  Your vehicle taxes are based on ownership on July 1st of the preceding year for the current tax year.  Your preceding year’s tax receipts are used to renew tags until the renewals are mailed in May of the following year.  Please also have your insurance information filled out before coming to the office to purchase your renewal.
