Pertinent
Tax Division Information
Tax
tickets are mailed in July and become delinquent if unpaid by April 30th
of the following year. They are published if not paid by May 10th.
Delinquent taxes cannot be removed from publication after payment if the
payment is made after September 10th. Three publications of
delinquency are required before the Sheriff’s Land Sale, which occurs usually
on the 2nd or 3rd Monday of November.
After October 15th of each year delinquent taxes must be paid
in cash, by money order or by certified check in order to keep the property from
being sold. No personal checks are
accepted after October 15th. Also,
no one can pay delinquent taxes on the morning of the sale date.
The latest day to pay the taxes to avoid the Sheriff’s Sale is the
Friday before the sale takes place. The
landowner can call five days after the sale to find out what happened to the
property.
